Moving to WordPress

Wordpress stationary

If your not reading this as part of your RSS feed, then you’ll have noticed that my blog has underwent a face-lift. I’ve moved back over to WordPress from the Ruby on Rails powered blog I started almost a year ago. I stress back over, because my very first blog which I retired a long time ago, was also running WordPress.

Why the move?

My reasoning for this is simple – I cannot design.

Having the flexibility of writing my own blogging engine was great, as it was perfectly tailored to suit my needs functionality wise. This feeling soon disappeared to the point where I had no motivation to blog, because I was permanently unhappy with the overall design of my site.

What can I say, I’m a perfectionist and aesthetics mean a lot to me. I think perhaps that I’m not alone on this one.

My choice of going back to WordPress is primarily based on the fact that there are a plethora of high quality free and premium themes out there to skin this thing till my hearts content. So if anyone can recommend a few sites they use to find some stunning WordPress theme’s please leave a comment :)

Other stuff I’m digging

There’s also the fact that I work with PHP full time, as a result I feel comfortable getting stuck into the source code.

Bar the odd security flaw, which occurs on most platforms from time to time, WordPress is a tried and tested blogging engine that has came on leaps and bounds in the past 2 years. The administration interface is very slick and far superior to most things that I’ve used before.

Whilst the current theme I’m working with isn’t finalised yet, I’m eventually content with the way things are here. This means that I can spend more time blogging, so watch this space.

Oh and apologies to John Gruber for using a theme that’s heavily inspired by Daring Fireball.
