Transitioning to Safari 4
I’ve tried previous versions of Safari only a handful of times, as I have been content with Firefox for at least 5 years. During this time period I’ve spanned across multiple OS’s, and the first thing I always did when transitioning to a new platform was to hit-up Mozilla for the newest release if Firefox. I knew that Safari 3 is significantly faster than Firefox, in both load-up time and in retrieving webpages, but I had my reasons for not migrating. The most of which were due to the plugins, 1Password, Foxmarks, Delicious, Firebug to name a few.
Those practices were abolished a while ago when I tried the beta release of Safari 4, which I was completely blown away by…this thing is unbelievably fast! The benchmarks agree with me.

What about your passwords, saved bookmarks and development tools Damian? Even though I think I’ve got some form of memory disorder I can still remember all my passwords. I came to my senses and realised that I shouldn’t rely on a third party tool to help me with this. With regards to bookmarks, I have been outsourcing these to delicious, which actively makes me tag anything of interest so it’s easier to find in the future, cool chips!
I’ve hit a snag on the development tools area, as Safari’s web inspector doesn’t really have anything on Firebug. If you haven’t found this gem yet, you can enable it in the Advanced tab in preferences.

Hence I’ve found myself resorting back to Firefox for day to day front-end work. As a result I haven’t quite made the full transition yet, but I’m definately thinking about it. What about the interface issues? Well that’s a topic for another post, so stay tuned!
